Content Query web part can only aggreagte items from lists on the same
site collection (which is obviously one the same we application and
server).

We at KWizCom (www.kwizcom.com) have released a free web part called
"Remote List Viewer" that eanbles you to display a remote list (from a
different SharePoint server) on your page.
