Don't know of any other ways. You could hack into the database I guess.

Since then ...I learned that's possible. I was wondering if there were
alternate ways ...as xcopy isn't always the better choice...

If you have XP or above you can map a drive (UNC).

Here's the scenario... I have a few document libraries, that I want to
do away with. Before I zap them, I'd like to export them to a file
structure, or files that I can open in Windows. For instance, if there
was a PDF in the document library, I'd like to click on
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=FEEA83B4-7F46-4040-BCE2-5341E5C1B107&displaylang=enand open it from my archive.
Is this possible? I saw some tools on:
...but that looks like its only for moving to another sps site.
