Re: dynamic web page viewer based on url in query sting?

Doug,

I have added trace and debug code to the Web Part so we can see what is going on. Both the debug and release versions are now available on my Web Site and can be downloaded from here:
http://bobmixon.xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/SharePoint/Dynamic_Page_Viewer_Web_Part

Initially download and install the debug version, it outputs more debug and trace information than the release version does. To view the debug and trace information, you will need to install a trace listener; the absolute best one I have found and use everyday is the Macaw Trace Info Web Part. Just download it and drop it on the same page and bang, you will begin to see the output from my Web Part.

The Macaw Trace Info Web Part can be obtained here:
http://dotnetjunkies.com/WebLog/victorv/archive/2005/11/08/133629.aspx

I would like to see a screen dump of the Trace Info output as the Web Part runs. Please run it with a couple of different URL parameters.

As far as the URL format goes, it doesn't matter. Meaning, it can be a fully qualified URL or a relative URL; as long as it will properly return a browser page in the Pge Viewer Web Part. I don't manipulate the URL at all.

Yes, no go. Here's the URL:
http://portal.ups.edu/sites/is/nssg/exchange/basic/default.aspx?URL=ht
tp://www.microsoft.com or
http://portal.ups.edu/sites/is/nssg/exchange/basic/default.aspx?URL=ww
w.microsoft.com (removed the http:// from the new url)

Here is a link to the resultant page:
http://ddenet.com/photos/devans/images/253/original.aspx
I have attached the default.aspx file (renamed to .txt) in case you
would like to take a look.

Thank you for all your help Bob!

Sorry Doug I meant to say Page Viewer Web Part?

The Dynamic Page Viewer Web Part will look for the first instance of
a
Page
Viewer Web Part and change that URL.

So, I followed the directions in a included document, but fail to
the
url to
display. I tried both methods of installation. I can get the
webpart
installed. I can use Frontpage to put the webpart onto my page.
When
I
give it an url in the address bar I get nothing. Here is a link to
a
screen
shot of the result:

And here is the contents of the address bar:
http://someserver.somedomain.com/sites/basic/default.aspx?URL=http:/
/w
ww.microsoft.com
Thanks again!

Doug,

I went ahead and developed a Web Part that will do what you need
and placed it on my website. It is called Dynamic Page Viewer Web
Part and can be found here:

Is it possible to setup a page with a web page viewer web part
where the url that the web part displays is a variable that is
assigned it's value from the query sting in the original url to
the page?

So, page is called myviewer.aspx. Open IE, give it the url
http://portal/myviewer.aspx?page=www.microsoft.com

When the page opens the web page viewer web part displays
www.microsoft.com.

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks!
