Is Sharepoint Portal free?

Hi.

i downloaded the evaluation copy from the MS website, and it has been over
30 days...it doesnt notify me that it is expired....

also, what is the different between the downloadable version and if i
purchased the CD from microsoft?

if its free, MS Rocks! :)
