Advanced Search Issue - Numeric columns

I started off having trouble getting SharePoint to find my user-added
columns from my document libraries in advanced search. Now that I got
that working properly (there was something flaky with my search service
- rebuilt SP and it works like a champ) I have another issue.

One of my columns in my document library is numeric. The default
advanced search properties that are numeric work fine - they prompt me
for =,<,>,<=,>=. When I look at my custom (numeric) column, it is still
prompting me for a string, so the dropdown is "contains" and "is
exactly". I have rebuilt my indexes a few times, did an iisreset,
sacrificed a chicken - yet no love for the advanced search.

I have seen in various places that this may be a bug. Can anyone
confirm or deny this? If it is indeed a bug, can someone point me to
the location of the patch?
