I have tried to do full updates many times. The problem is that it returns
the error that the paths are excluded, and no files are added to the source
index.

There is that one little note, on the page of the SPPS Administration Guide
that says:

Note: Depending upon how the content source is added, site path rules need
to be entered in a certain way for the way for the update to succeed. For
example, if the content source is \\server_name\Folder1\Folder2, and the site
path rule is \\server_name\Folder1\Folder2\*, then the update fails. If the
content source is \\server_name\Folder1\Folder2, and the site path rule is
\\server_name\Folder1\*, the update succeeds. If the content source is
\\server_name\Folder1\Folder2\, and the site rule is
\\server_name\Folder1\Folder2\*, then the update succeeds.

So I guess that the first question is how should the content source be
entered. Currently I am using http://www.msmvps.com/obts. Do I need to put
a final slash on the string to get this to work?

I can get it to index all the main blog pages on the server, but that is not
what I want to do. I want to exclude that page and get the individual pages
that are at http://www.msmvps.com/obts/*/*/*/*.aspx.
