Different folks, on different versions of windows, have varying experiences.
If you have a current version of Norton, I'd recommend uninstalling it
completely before installing the new version. This can save some pain
later--if a manual uninstall of 2004 is needed, you must know the precise
path--upgrade, or clean install, and, if upgrade, what the previous version
was--in order to properly manually uninstall.
Either keep track well, or try to do a clean install.
If I'd bought it, I'd install it--I know plenty of folks using it and I
believe they are well-served by the product. Bear in mind that newsgroups
generally are where folks go to get help with problems, so it is difficult
to see a well-rounded view of things from looking at newsgroup posts.
As you can see, I'm being pretty neutral. I don't use it myself, and I
don't have enough positive experience with it to make a recommendation.
What negative experience I have with it I won't hold against it, and it may
not be relevant to you--as I say, experiences can be different on different
versions of Windows.
