I've just done a quick glance at the 7 NG's I monitor and every one of them use Top Posting. Regardless of whether it is "good" or "bad" the infighting isn't helping the Op one bit. I try to follow posting conventions and, so far, all of the ones I monitor use top posting and so shall I.

by checking to not display file extensions for known file types, youre
simply not DISPLAYING them, theyre still very much there. attaching a file
to an email has NO affect and i assure you when the suer gets the file the
extension is still there. sounds like they dont have the program installed
to open the file... or the association is messed up

Via WMI, you can discern the file (which gives the path and the file
name together), the filename, and/or the extension. See:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa387236.aspx and you might
want to download the scriptomatic from the Microsoft Script Center to
see demos of these classes in action.
J.Anos... QUIT TOP-POSTING!!! And quit being a jerk to people. If
you don't have a solution, don't post. I haven't seen you post
anything solutions but you're more than quick to put someone down or
tell them they don't know what they are doing. Knock it off!
