I work for a small business with 25 remote branches with 100 computers

has given me the task of maintaining inventory of all these machines. I
know that this is possible with WMI Remote scripting. But my question
is; is it possible if all of these machines are not in any specific
network. i.e. this company does not have a client-server environment.
They are all just standalone machines connected to the internet. So,
how do i go about doing this?
Hi,
If you have tcp/ip connectivity, you can connect to the computers. However,
you need administrative privileges on the machine to retrieve most
information. You may need to use alternate credentials, which could get
complex with so many computers.
When computers are joined to a domain, the group Domain Admins is made a
member of the local Administrators group. Any account that is a member of
Domain Admins can retrieve information from the computers with WMI. You may
need to know the Administrator password on all computers.
