I do this often with the Reg.exe that comes with XP and also 2003.
This .exe will run on NT and 2000 machines as well.

Note there is no "update" parameter with this verion of Reg.exe,
instead use "add" and the "/f" switch, as in this example.

Reg add \\computer\hklm\software\ /v Test /d "String"
