The important thing is that these newsgroups are provided by Microsoft and they don't require either top-posting or bottom-posting. The comment "please do not toppost on usenet" implies that these newsgroups are provided by usenet but not Microsoft.

Your ignorance is overwhelming.

It is my understanding that words such as "stupid" are a violation of both Usenet and Microsoft policies.

Sue me, and file a complaint.

I agree however that it can get very complicated if a combination of top-posting and bottom-posting are used in the same reply.

Yet you continue to top-post in an interleaved reply?

I try to use whichever has already been used in the discussion.

Oh really? I don't believe you.

It would help to have a convention that everyone complies with.

You don't say? And the convention that perhaps 90% of Usenet complies with - or requests to comply with - is interleaved response.

It is my understanding that people accustomed to non-Microsoft software prefer bottom-posting because that is how non-Microsoft software works.

It has nothing to do with non-MS versus MS software. I used OE for a while before I moved on to software that was better. How did I post? Interleaved.

Microsoft software, however, favors top-posting.

Pure, utter nonsense. Any software, even the one I use, can be configured to put the cursor at the top, or the bottom, to reply.

Besides, it doesn't matter to me - one bit - how your broken crappy software works.

Maybe you should get a decent newsreader, anything is more decent than OE, and not near as full of security holes.
