I've gone about killing all non-essential processes via task manager
(not recommended as a general rule!). After getting it down to almost
the bare minimum (some processes can't be stopped as they are "system
critical", stopping other's causes the system to reboot itself after a
warning) there is a small difference but not much - down to about 6900
ms.
While compiling the results listed in my previous post, I came across
one anomaly. A colleague who has a PC identical to mine obtained a
result of approx 2500 ms. When I logged onto HIS PC I still got
results around 8000 ms. When I got him to log onto MY PC he also got
results of 8000 ms.
Unfortunately my colleague's PC has been allocated to another person
who is in the process of transferring docs and settings etc. so I can't
investigate further at the moment.
