Apologies, I knew there was something I'd forgotten :-)

I have a variety of results on different hardware:
Operating System	Browser	CPU	RAM (Mb)	Time Taken (ms)
XP Pro SP2	6.0	Pentium IV 3.0 GHz HT	1024	7936
XP Pro SP2	6.0	Pentium III 800 Mhz	512	25082 *
XP Pro SP2	6.0	Pentium IV 1800 MHz	256	9734
Windows 2000 Server	6.0	XEON 550 Mhz	128	9826
Windows 2000 Pro	6.0	Pentium III 800 Mhz	256	6985
Windows 2000 Pro	6.0	Pentium III 730 Mhz	1024	5300
* Several other applications running at the same time.

And if those "Several other applications" are CPU/Resource intensive it would explain the results there. 800mhz with 512 ram isn't a lot to try to run XP SP2.

Of those, the 3.0Ghz with 1 Gig of Ram taking 8 seconds while a 800 Mhz machine with 256mb RAM only taking 7 seconds would be a better indication/test case.

My PC (the first listed - 3.0 GHz processor) gives a time of approx
8000 ms. Your result of 2200 milliseconds is approx 4 times as fast
and yet you are also using winXP - what hardware did you test against?

I have XP SP2 Home (that may be a major difference). 2.8 Ghz with 512 RAM. I can't test it at work because of upcoming surgery but it could be a major difference.

If you are using similar hardware to my own, what else could be causing
the difference?

Background processes. Processes that Pro is running that Home isn't injecting.

I have a laptop with Win2K on it that I will start up later today to see what it does with the code.
