JScript and return code

Hi,

1) I have to do a check operation and return the result to a backup program.
The only way to notify the backup program of an error is by return code. I
don't exactly know if it is possible to pass a return code with JScript. Is
somebody able to provide a source what clarifys that?

2) Is it possible to compile a JScript script into an exe - but without
Visual Studio .NET? I don't have Visual Studio yet and I don't want to by it
simply for compiling scripts.
