That's a lame response, and frankly surprised me. You usually are a bit more
helpful. Aaron offered a suggestion that probably did not bear fruit, and an
appropriate "this is not an ASP issue" dismissal. But at least he offered
something.

Agreed.

Questionable. I think this is a topic sufficiently close to the norm in
here, especially since the ultimate resolution will probably require
scripting if it turns out to be the bug Joe suggests it is**. It is
certainly a topic to which I will be paying attention.

Joe --

Have you been able to confirm that this occurs with static HTML? I assume
you have. If so, I suggest you determine whether this is an IE-only problem.
If it is, then MS should be made aware of it, and one of the IE newsgroups
may be a better place, (microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser,
for example).

That said, I would further suggest that you explore the properties of the
opened "_blank" windows. Does IE give them names? Does it assign [opener]
properly? Do you see the same problem with IFRAME and FRAMESET? Do you see
the same behavior if you script it (form.target = "_blank") ?

You can certainly work around the issue by assigning random values to each
form's [target] property at some point prior to submission, but that is
merely a workaround for what could be a real bug.

**If I read it correctly, Joe claims this only happens when the original
document is in a frame, so this inconsistent behavior is somewhat troubling
to me.
