Personal Edition faster than Standard Edition

Hi,
We had a SQLserver 2000 Personal Edition installed on a dual processor
server(...) the Event log reported about 5 concurrent connects, so we
installed the Standard Edition. The funny thing is that instead of a
performance boots we noticed a performance decrease.
Has someone any idea what could be the problem here?
