To all,
After installing Windows XP SP2, a new problem was created in Enterprise
manager. When you select a table and try to view the rows, the message
"Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."
This occurs regardless of all the fixes that I have tried as posted by
Microsoft. Unfortunately, the best advice that Microsoft has posted seems to
be "Do not install XP Service Pack 2 if you are running MS-SQL Server".
Unfortunately, I managed to miss that warning since I have been dutifully
keeping my stuff updated on a regular basis.
When I try to uninstall XP SP2 from the Control Panel, I get an error saying
that it has already been uninstalled -- which is not true at all.
Have tried reinstalling MDAC drivers. 2.8 won't install, 2.7 refresh will.
All to no avail.
Have also tried turning off the XP firewall -- both by using the interface,
and also by disabling the service, but that has not effect. As a side
note -- I already use a good firewall configured well. I REALLY don't want
the XP firewall even on my system in any form or fashion. During all my
efforts to correct this problem, my other firewall has been disabled as
well.
If ANYONE knows of a fix, or has experienced the same problem, to solve this
(please don't suggest things that you haven't personally tried), please post
the fix here -- or at least what you have tried and what doesn't work.
Thanks in advance,
-Tom
