Hello everyone.

I am brand new to the "SQL" and SQL software, and don't know very much about
it.

I am considering purchasing an network enterprise application that requires
Windows SQL Server 2000, but a single user version of this application will
work with MSDE (desktop) on a standalone machine. I need to find out what
needs to be running on my standalone machine before I go out and buy this
application...... and I have a few questions.

Q. What is a SQL Developer Edition? What is it used for? Do I need
it?

Q. If I install a SQL developer on a standalone machine, would it take the
place of MSDE, or must the developer run on a machine with MSDE software
already running?

Q. If I were to install this application (enterprise edition) on a
network, would a developer take the place of Windows SQL Server 2000 or must
the developer run on a machine with Windows SQL Server software already
running?

The reason for my concern is because the price of the Windows SQL Server
2000 is high, but the developer edition is low, .... which leads me to
believe that you must run the developer on a system that already is running
SQL Server or MSDE. Is this correct?

If anyone can help me out here I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks very much,

John
