RE: Sql Server 2005 Setup will not run

Hi Kenj,

Thank you for using Microsoft MSDN Managed Newsgroup. My name is Mark Han.
I am glad to work with you on this issue.

Based on the description, I understand that you would like to install SQL
Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, however the setup.exe won't run after you
double click the setup.exe If I have misunderstood, please let me know.

Regarding to the symptom, the issue is special and complex. I need more
information to analisys the issue. my email address is
v-fathan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx(remove online). If it is convenient to you,
please send me an email and then I will crreate a work space for you to
upload the required information.

Based on my experience, please check the following
1 Open Task Scheduler by going through START >> ALL PROGRAMS >> ACCESSORIES
SYSTEM TOOLS >> TASK SCHEDULER. Do you see any tasks in here that have
names like "SQL Server Remote Setup" or "SQL Setup" or "setup"? If so,
delete them.

2 Check the Task Manager to ensure there no orphan setup.exe executing.

3 Make sure to check processes of all users.

To better understand the issue, please help to collect/confirm the following
1 Is there any SQL Server instance installed on the machine?

2 to narrow down the issue, please run to install the SQL Server instance
by command line. There is an article to share with you::
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259(SQL.90).aspx#skuupgrade

Start /wait <CD or DVD Drive>\servers\setup.exe /qb
INSTANCENAME=<InstanceName> ADDLOCAL=All PIDKEY=<pidkey value with no "-">
SAPWD=<StrongPassword>

3 after install SQL Server by command line, please check if the SQL Server
setup log is created. By default, they are located at:
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log\ if the setup
log exists, please Send all the files in this folder with zip format to me

4 Windows Event Logs:
Please gather Windows Event Logs on the problematic server:
Start -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> Export application/system
event logs with both EVT & TXT format and send them to me.

If there is anything unclear, please let me know

I look forward to your reply. Thanks.

Best regards,
Mark Han
