Aaargh!

It is no better in the 2008 version.

One contributing factor might be that the most experienced users of
SQL Server never complain about it because they never see it. They do
such work in a query window instead of the GUI tool. Partly that is
because they want to see exactly what will be executed. Partly it is
that they can usually write it quicker themselves. A major reason is
that they store scripts of all such changes somewhere else such as a
source control system. And finally there are too many problems with
the GUI, some annoying as the one you found, others dangerous to the
data.
