Re: Importing data from excel

Your package can create the table, if necessary. Otherwise, it can assume
the table exists. Yes, you map the source columns to the destination's
columns. You can get fancy and have the data flow cleanse the data, add
calculated columns and the like. It's very powerful. For good tips, check
out www.sqlis.com.

i have 1 last question, when you sat source and destination my mind
understand that the process will create new table in oracle and full it
wiith
data from excel but what if there is an existing table already in oracle can
i do mapping in columns between the two tables ?

You don't need the SQL Server relational engine. Yes, SSIS is
graphical.
In your case, you would have Excel as a data source and Oracle as a
destination. You would then create a data flow between them. Check
out:

It's a very good text. SSIS is definitely worth learning.

SSIS comes with SQL Server at no extra charge. You can pump between
Oracle
and Excel without having to go through any intermediary. Why pay for
a
3rd
party tool?

Use SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), using Excel as the
source
and
SQL Server as the destination. Alternatively, you may be able to
create
a
linked server to the Excel workbook and then use T-SQL to pull the
data.
