Hello -
I am having a heck of a time uninstalling SQL Server 2005 Reporting
Services. We are on Windows 2008 x64. Here's what happened:
1. Installed a default instance with everything
2. Installed 2 more instances with all options as well
3. Installed SP2 and all hotfixes at the time
4. Decided to not use the other two instances, went to Control Panel,
selected SQL Server, clicked "Change".
5. Selected one of the two instances, and chose "Remove".
6. Uninstaller seemed to work just fine.
7. Repeated for the other unwante instance.
Here's where we get interesting...
The Reporting Services portions of the instances are still there. They are
listed as services. I can start and stop them. All of their files are still
there. They didn't go anywhere! But the SQL Engine, Analysis Services, etc.
are gone.
Now, I've tried to force a re-installation from the SQL Server media, with
the REINSTALL switch. I've tried doing the same from the GUI installer. And
it will let me reinstall them, no problem. But even using the REINSTALL
flags, I get some odd behavior: if I try to re-apply SP2, it sees the
instances, but it shows them as not able to be upgraded. In other words, it
did not truly do a full reinstall.
I dug up information about the two instances in the Registry, and I found
their unistall commands. Strangely enough, when I try to run them, I get the
following error:
"Could not find a package to install on the installation media"
I get the same error if I try the "Uninstall" button (not "Change") in
Control Panel.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated. This is killing me because I absolutely
cannot continue like this; any other updates to SQL Server are failing
because they are trying to patch these two bad Reporting Services instances.
I am *tempted* to try upgrading the two instances to SQL 2008 just to see if
that flushes them enough to let me get rid of them. I've spent 2 months off
and on looking at this problem,
Thanks!
