Re: sp4 to sp1 to sp4

timperkins,

I don't specifically know your problem, but FWIW, your build number says
that your SQL Server is at SP4.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889543

7.00.1063 = SQL Server 7.0 SP4

The (Build 2195: Service Pack 4) refers to the version of Windows NT 5.0,
just in case that seemed confusing.

select @@version yields:

Microsoft SQL Server 7.00 - 7.00.1063 (Intel X86)
Apr 9 2002 14:18:16
Copyright (c) 1988-2002 Microsoft Corporation
Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

But when I try to rerun the SP4 patch, the install program says:

"Setup has detected that the previous install attempt was not completed.
Press Retry to continue installation or Cancel to exit setup."

Retry goes through a dialog "Setup is upgrading your server..." but then
responds with:

"RETRYING - Running script sp1.sql (1 of 8) : Retried 1 time(s)"

It finally just craps out and doesn't complete. Should i just ignore the
reinstall problem? Reboot the server (haven't tried that yet)?

Yes, I'd love to upgrade but we're running a legacy app that doesn't work
beyond 7.0... We have MSSQL 2005 running on a different server.

What does SELECT @@VERSION say?

Have you considered upgrading to a version that is still supported, or at
least to a version that the people at Microsoft still remember? :-)

It's a long story, but I have a legacy SQL7 Enterprise server that I
recently
installed, patched to SP4 and have been running for a few days (working
great, thanks).

Tonight, I inadvertently started the SP1 install. The script failed,
but to
be safe I tried running the sp4 install again. It is failing now as
well.
The server appears to be running properly, but I'm uneasy leaving it in
this
state.

Looking for some advise as to how to proceed and make sure that the
host is
truly up to SP4 patch level.
