Jim,
Microsoft says: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/default.mspx
.....For example, if you currently have a 32-bit server and plan to upgrade
the hardware to 64 bit in the future, you can purchase a 32-bit SKU today,
and later switch to 64 bit without having to purchase an additional license.
I suggest contacting Microsoft through one of the methods mentioned here:
http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/render.aspx?view=22&type=mnp&content=22/custsrv
I don't know if this is absolutely fee free, but you can check.

Hi,
I have 32 bit 2005 running on a 64 bit server. Do you know how to go about
getting the 64 bit SKU? Can it be done without incurring Microsoft's
support charges?
Thanks

Flavio,
Yes, it is supported to the extent that 32-bit apps are supported by
running in WOW mode. See:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/compare-features.mspx
You will notice that Standard Edition is checked, instead of saying WOW.
This is because you can also get the upgraded 64-bit SKU of SQL Server
2005 without buying a new license. Therefore, a better idea is to
upgrade to 64-bit SQL Server 2005 if that fits your needs.
