My computer had Express SQL and tools installed. I want to keep.
SQL Express but install the 2005 regular Work Station tools. I
have tried every combination I could think of but nothing works.
To start I went into Control Panel and removed everything with
SQL Server and MSDN in the title. I then rebooted. From this
base I tried every combination of installation sequences I could
think of. Nothing gets me to a successful installation.
I always end up with somthing that says "The following
components that you chose to install are already installed on
the machine." A couple of other messages that I see are:
Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a
later version than the version you are trying to upgrade.....
or
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about
upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades"
Can someone give me a sequence of steps that will work?
