Wendy,
I am not well versed on licensing Microsoft products. (That is a very
special body of knowledge, I believe.)
However, you mention that you have Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition.
Looking through the specs at
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa700921.aspx reveals that your
Professional Edition license also includes a copy of SQL Server 2005
Developer Edition. This has all (or almost all?) of the features of
Enterprise Edition, but is only licensed for development.
Therefore, since you have a Developer Edition license, use that instead of
SQL Server Express.

Thank you very much for your answer! Is this the only way that I can
setup
a test sql server on my workstation and be in compliance with licensing
laws?
if you are not certain about the licensing rules for Visual Studio.net
2005 professional version, can you tell me who I should contact to ask
this
question to?
Thanks!

Wendy,
You already have SQL Server 2005 Management Studio and other tools
installed. These tools can also manage the local SQL Express
installation
that you would like to install.
To avoid any problems, when you install SQL 2005 Express Edition you
should
choose not to install
the Express Management tools. You should be able to manage this through
the
install tool. (If you install the Express Management Tools, they will
conflict with the full tools that you have now.)

I wanted to know if the following setup would work and/or if you have
any
other suggestions:
(**Note: I am asking this question since I am currently the only .net
programmer at my new company. I have the professional version of visual
studio.net 2005 and sql server 2005 managment studio installed on my
workstation. What I am trying to do is find a way to use a 'test' sql
version
for 'development testing' only. The only place that is available to put
a
test sql server is on my workstation. My job says they only have a
license
for two sql server 2000 in the production environment and no
'test/developemtn' license is available that they are aware of unless
it
is
part of visual studion.net 2005.)
Thus can I install both sql server express 2005 and sql server 2005
managment studio on my workstation and each one of them would run. They
would
not interfer with the function they were setup for?
Thanks!
