Re: MS SQL Server Management Studio - Import and Export Settings

Dear Jeffery,

Thank you for posting here.

I understand that you would like to know where the variable
"%vsspv_visualstudio_dir%" and other SQL Server variables are set. Thank
you for your inquiry.

As far as I know, these variables are defined in the hard code and we
cannot reset or change these variables by design. Regarding the behavior
you have experienced, I would like to explain that this is a normal
behavior and it is done by the information in the following registry entry:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell"

Under this registry key, we can find many subkeys (I.E:
"DefaultOpenSolution location") are set to "%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\SQL
Server Management Studio\Projects". If such location does not exist, SQL
Server will re-create this directory when we launch the SQL Server
Management Studio.

For more information, if we manually remove the whole "Shell" registry key,
SQL Server will also rebuild all these keys automatically after we launch
the SQL Server Management Studio.

Have a nice day!

| Do you know where "%vsspv_visualstudio_dir% and other sql server
| management studio variables are set? I've successfully relocated my
| settings file follwoing the instructions above, but everytime I open
| management studio a folder named Sql Server Management Studio with a
| sub-folder named Projects is created in My Documents. It looks like
| this may result from a section in the currentsettings file:
|
| <PropertyValue name="ProjectsLocation">%vsspv_user_documents%\SQL

| Regardless, if you know where vsspv_user_documents is defined could
| you let me know, thanks
