Re: Server Rebuild - What to do?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello Raj,

That will work, but as a backup procedure perform a full database backup for
all databases including system databases before you do any thing.

Steps:-

1. Do a full database backup all databases and keep in a safe place
2. Stop SQL Server service
3. COpy the MDF and LDF to a safe location including system databases
4. Install OS
5. Install SQL Server in same path
6. Apply the same service packs
7. Stop SQL Server service
8. COpy the MDF and LDF files to right path including system database files
9. Start SQL Server

This will definetely work out. Incase if it gives issues then use the
backups taken in step-1

Thanks
Hari

We are planning to Rebuild our production server. It has SQL Server 2000
Database and has the Clustered Setup in it and we have Windows 2003
Server.
As there is some problem in the setup done in the machine we are planning
do
the fresh build by installing OS freshly and also install SQL Server 2000
Enterprise Edition. What I want to know is that how can we bring the
production database intact with the current setup post rebuild?

Can we copy the existing .MDF and .LDF files for all the system databases
(Master, MSDB and Model) and user databases and post rebuild stop the SQL
Server services and copy the .MDF and .LDF files from the backup that we
haven prior to the build? Is it the right way to bring back the
production
system by using this method?
