Unable to update or uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express

OK,

I think I've searched all the current messages in this group, and I
can't find a reference to the problem I'm having. I have a WinXPSP2
box running SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server 2005 standard.
Automatic Updates downloaded the update for SQL05 Express SP1, but it
won't install. I get an error 1612, and the log files shows that "the
installation source can not be found". I've been working on this for a
while, with the ultimate target of upgrading both SQL Server and SS
Express to SP2. I can't unistall SQL Express, either - I get the same
error. I suspect I've done enough damage to the installation settings
that I'll need to manually recover - is there a manual technique for
completely uninstalling SQL Server express, so that I can start over?

Here's the log from my last effort to reinstall SP1 - I set up a
folder on my C drive to hold the install files.

Thanks,

Eric
