RE: New Server Hardware - Move everything from one Server to another?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi, Scott,
I understand that you had two questions:
1. How to move databases between two SQL Server 2005 servers?
2. Can all the database files including master and other system databases
be moved on the new server?
If I have misunderstood, please feel free to let me know.

For your first question and partial of your second question, you can refer
to this artilce:
How to move databases between computers that are running SQL Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314546

For your second question, you can restore all of the user databases to the
target server; howeveryou cannot restore or attach the system databases to
a new server, unless they have the same environment (same OS, same
installation path, and same service packs etc).
In most cases, it is no need to restore your system databases to a new
server. Could you please let me know your requirements?

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me
know.

Best regards,
Charles Wang
