The first link had a section on Tools that tells that the management tools
are not part of express itself. But there is a Management Studio Express
tool that will allow you to manage the Express edition of SQL Server. You

Tank you Andrew for your reply. I surveyed all the links you provided. But
I can't see that any of these articles treats the problem that I
experience, namely the database interface not beeing installed while the
setup program doesn't give any error messages.

I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Not only it pushed me
to install .NET Framework 3.0, but it provides only the "Configuration
Tools". How can I develop databases only with that?
Please help.
I am running Windows XP SP2 on a portable PC.
