Re: Cannot Install SQL Server SP2

All my SQL Server services are running under the local account. The install
is being run from c:\temp. All SQL Server services are stopped at the time
of the install.

I have looked at the logs - the install does not get past the first step of
installing the setup support files. The logs indicate that it cannot copy
the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup
Bootstrap\Cache\SQLSupport\x86\1033\SqlSupport.msi file. That file does
exist in the install files as I've found it and attempted to copy it myself.
I've checked the permissions on the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Cache\SQLSupport\x86\1033 and it's not locked down
in any way.

The messages at the end of the Hotfix.log file are the following:

If you are running the SQL Server service under a domain login try
switching it to the Local System account. Also look at my later thread
about "MSSQL SP2: Failure: How to Troubleshoot with the Log"

Thanks,

I'm getting that same error. Please let me know if you find a solution.

I'm doing a local install (no network drives involved) and even tried
copying the sqlsupport.msi file it's complaining about manually, but to
no avail.

I'm trying to install SQL Server SP2 on a SQL Server 2005 Developer
Edition.
I'm running SQL Server 2005, SSAS 2005, SSIS 2005, & SSRS 2005 with SP1.
(I
have also install VS 2005 Professional on this server.)

I've copied the SP2 exe file on the local C: drive of the SQL 2005
Server
and ran it directly on this server.

The installation error off during the Setup Support Files. I get a
window
message that states "The following unexpected error occurred: Unable to
install Windows Installer MSI file".
