I had the same problem when installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services on Vista (RTM) and was directed to the same knowledgebase article that Vera mentions.
It seems that the default install of IIS on Vista is rather bare (not that it is a bad thing!) and it was necessary to enable the individual components as listed in KB920201. I don't know if this was the same for Vista RC1; I can only comment on what I am using at present.
If I recall correctly the install process made reference to SP2 for SQL Server 2005 being a requirement for running on Vista but I believe that SP2 is still a CTP. It may be that official support for Vista will not be announced until SP2 goes gold.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Standard on Vista RTM. After providing
all the details, the setup stops with a error message saying that the
selected features are not valid with this version of SQL Server.
I also get a warning saying that IIS is not installed or detected when in
fact IIS is running on my machine and the installation process detects IIS.
Is SQL Server 2005 supported by Vista RTM.
I realy need this installation going and would appreciate any help in this
regard.
