Re: SQL Express Fails with Hardware Error

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I've had this exact same problem and have been trying all weekend. My
hardware configuration more than exceeds the minimum requirements. If
anyone has a solution, please help. Thanks.

In the preliminary examination of my system, it passes all the tests
except hardware requirements.

It does not say specificially where it finds shortcomings. It suggests
I consult the system requirements to find out why, and I exceed the
specs in every category:

My system:
512 MB RAM
1.7 GHz Pentium M
10 GB free disk space
XP SP2
.NET 2.0
IE 7

I've gone past the warning and tried four times now, rebooting
beforehand, etc., I've disabled every other program running (including
anti-virus) with no effect. It fails to complete the installation of
the SQL Server Database Services. It then suggests consulting the
summary log file and/or starting the service manually. When I try to
start the service manually, it stops and immediately stops.

The Summary.txt log has the following non-specific failure message:

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.1399.06
==============================
OS Version : Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
(Build 2600)

requirements for this SQL Server release. For detailed hardware
requirements, see the readme file or SQL Server Books Online.
Machine : DMLAPTOP
Product : Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English)
Product Version : 9.00.1399.06
Install : Successful
Log File : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup
Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup0007_DMLAPTOP_SQLSupport_1.log

Any idea what's causing the install failure?
