No...it's not a known issue.
I guess anything could potentially be a problem - on the
display it's more often related to video drivers and running
graphic, multimedia type addins,etc.
You can get patches from Microsoft Update. You can also get
them from SQL 2005 downloads page:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/2005/default.mspx
There are no other service packs yet but there are hotfixes.
You can monitor SQL Server Knowledge Base articles through
this site: http://www.kbalertz.com/
Select the option to install the client, workstation tools
during the installation to install SSMS.

Hi Sue,
thanks for your reply.
yes, in fact i was using the server to start development, since i have
yet to load sql2005 on any other systems yet. wasnt sure i was going to
fully deploy it. why do you ask that, is that a known problem?
also , i was wondering if the onboard video adapter could be causing
this problem, havn't heard back from anybody else with problems,
although a google search does show other people with this problem with
no results.
i'm just noticing a relative slowness in basic things, like opening a
screen for modifying a table, loading a diagram, even since applying
service pack 1, i see each table box draw on the screen and a second
later the elements inside appear. sounds like a video problem if not a
slowness in sql. this all seemed faster before applying sp1. but the
freezing stopped.
are there any other patches to sql that you know of other than sp1?
what is the correct way to patch sql? using windows update?
also i will install it on one of the workstations and then i'll
determine if its the video. i wasnt 100% sure which option to pick off
the installation menu, since i dont want all the features, just want the
SSMS.

The other option you didn't provide applies - not having
these problems and no, not using SQL 2000 for development.
What all is slow and buggy other than your printing issues?
You mentioned the server specs - are you actually logging
onto a server and doing all development on the server?

i installed sql2005 standard
then applied service pack updates
when i go to print database diagrams, i get strange boxes on the page.
what's going on with this version?
seems very slow and buggy.
i kept getting locked up in sql management studio, had to end the
process. that's what prompted me to install updates.
are others having these problems also, or is everyone still using
sql2000 for development?
