RE: Reporting Services on x64

Thanks , is this config supported by Microsoft?
Secondly, does that mean that IIS will never be able to benefit from the
64bit architecture?
I will give it a go.
thanks again

Hello,

I understand that some programs cannot use 64 bit SQL RS 2005, and you 'd
like to install 32 bit RS 2005 instead of 64 bit componet so that it could
work with some other applicaiton. If I'm off-base, please let me know.

Per your quesitions on KB 917615 and support of 64 bit SRS 2005, I think
SRS 2005 itself is supported on x64 system and I think it is MOM 2005
cannot use SRS 2005 64 bit edition. You could install 32 bit version of SRS
2005 on a X64 bit system but you may also need 32 bit SQL server licenses.

Also, if you want to run native x64 RS, then IIS and ASP.NET need to be
running in 64 bit mode. If you want to run WOW RS, then you would need to
register the 32 bit versions. That shouldn't effect the database creation
scripts. We once perform the following test and it seems works fine:

- install IIS
- set IIS in 32bit emulation mode (cscript
%SystemDrive%\inetpub\AdminScripts\adsutil.vbs set
w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1)
- install SQL Server 2005 64 bit edition (full suite) without Reporting
services (ASP.Net 2.0 will now be running as 32-bit in IIS, allow ASP.Net
2.0 in IIS/Web Server Extensions if necessary)
- install SQL Server 2005 SP1 64 bit edition for all installed components
- install Reporting services 32 bit edition
- use reporting services configuration manager to configure:
- all setting must be configured by hand
- initallation will fail (might be caused by that Databases are
already SP1)
- install SQL Server 2005 SP1 32 bit edition for reporting services
- use reporting services configuration manager to initialize (will be OK
now)

I'd like to confirm if your concern is that MOM 2005 sp1 cannot use 64 bit
SRS 2005. I'll certainly route your feedback on this to MOM team. Also,
please feel free to let's know if you have other feedback or encounter
issues when installing SRS 2005 32 bit verion on X64 machine. Thank you.
