RE: Installing SQL 2000 onto Server with SQL 2005

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello,

I understand that you are not able to install SQL 2000 on a SQL 2005
machine. You recieved general network error when SQL is runinng
cnfgsvr.exe. If I'm off-base, please let me know.

SQL 2000 could be installed on a server with SQL 2005 instance installed.
Based on my experience, the issue you encountered could occur if MDAC files
are in use when installing SQL. I suggest you reinstall MDAC on Win2003 SP1
and restart the server to test the situaition

1. Right click %windir%\inf\mdac.inf , and click Install

2. Please direct it to Win2003 SP1 setup CD or folder when prompted.

If the issue persists, I suggest that you stop all services except these
services to isolate third party program issues:

Alerter
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
Directory Replicator
Event Log
License
Logging
Net Logon
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM
Plug n Play
NT LM Security Support Provider
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service
Server
Spooler
TCP/IP Netbios Helper
Workstation

Please let me know if you have any further questions or updates, and we
look forward to your reply.

Best Regards,

where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support

up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
