Re: Setup problem with SQL Server BI Studio

Thanks for your reply. I believe (but I could be wrong) that you have
to get VS Studio 2005 installed in order to have the tool SQL Server
Business Development Studio. The SQL server 2005 and VS Studio 2005 are
tightly connected. If you just install SQL server 2005, you don't get
the SQL Server Business Intel Development Studio.

Antony,

You should be able to install "everything" on one machine.

You don't say if installing BIDS failed with an error or if it's
simply not there. Either way I assume it's not listed under Start >
All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005. If it's installed you ought
to see SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio there.

As a first step I suggest running Setup again. On the screen where you
choose which features to install click the Advanced button.

On the screen which opens navigate down the tree and take a careful
look at the options. I don't now remember exactly how BIDS is listed
there but you ought to be able to select it there.

I hope that helps.

I have tried to install a full standard version of SQL Server 2005 on
Windows Server 2003. SQL Server Management Studio is working fine but
the SQL Server Business Development Studio would not install. Why is
that?

Is this a Client tool and not a server tool?

Does it mean that we can only view the data mining models on Clients PC
and not directly on the Server?

Thanks for your help.

Antony.
