Pro: better use of resources -among others...
Con: Potential security issues. Be sure to remove Northwind and Pubs
databases.
I would use the /3GB setting to use more of the extra memory -perhaps
setting Max Memory to about 2.75GB.

I am a DBA new to SQL server. Currently, our server (win 2000 sp4 / 3GB
RAM)
has multiple instances of SQL server installed. Two of the SQL server
instances (sp3) are for accounting and the other instance (sp4) is for
db's
used in other applications.
All of the db's are slated to move to a box with updated hardware (
win2003
/ 3.5 GB RAM) running SQL Server 2000 sp4
As part of the transfer, we are considering putting all db's into a single
instance. If sp4 is not an issue for the accounting databases, there are
no
db naming conflicts and no logins gaining elevated permissions, what are
the
pros and/or cons for moving from multiple instances to a single instance?
Thanks in advance for your input,
Pat
