A restore will restore to the original state of the db at the backup time.
So, you will need enough disk space to hold the original size.

I have a local PC that I had installed SQL server, analysis services,
integration services etc.. on. I also had a sql db. Because I am using
OLAP
the log file for the db is 1/2 of my disk space! In order to cut down on
the
size of this log file (as well as some other reasons) I created a virtual
machine on my local pc. The local macahine has 16GB. So this morning I
backed up my db, removed the installation of SQL and all its componenets
and
am ready to move everything over to my virtual machine.
My problem is that the log file is too big for my virtual system! If I
install SQL on the virtual machine and restore the backup will the system
by
default use 1/2 of the virtual machine space for the log or will it
actually
need the 33.4GB that it had prior to the backup?
I don't want to mess things up even more so I'd like some suggestions on
what actions would be best.
fyi...
Another reason I needed a virtual machine is that I want to allow OLAP
measures to be non-aggregate and I can only do that with SQL Enterprise on
a
Windows Server; which is my virtual machine.
thanks,
Marilyn
