Head over to Asus' web site and see if that motherboard supports RAID.
Also, you might as well check to see if you have two SATA plugs or four on
the motherboard.
I don't see why it would hurt to plug in an IDE drive. Heck, you could put
a monster IDE drive in there that you could issue backups to.

If the disks go, I'll simply restore from the server. Yes, I am running a
developement machine, ASUS P7... Two Maxtor 100 SATA drives, RAID on the
MB.
Someone told me never connect an IDE drive (I have two standard slots in
addition to the SATA slots) to a drive running RAID. I don't know what
can
or can't be done here. It would be neat if I could have a striped set
that
mirrors a striped set of MAXTOR 100's on the SATA. Can this be done?
