If you just want to play, I would recommend developer - it has all the features of Enterprise and installs on XP. Standard will also install on XP but Enterprise won't. You could also try the Evaluation edition - it also install on XP with all the enterprise features but it expires in a few months.

Can I install Standard or Enterprise Versions of SQL 2005 on Windows XP Professional.Per our IT policies, we can not use server version of OS, and at the same time we wanted to play and test out all features of SQL 2005.Features like Online Indexing, Notification Services, and last but not the least the 4 GB limit on the DB size.Any info in this regard will be appreciated.TIASatish Balusa
