In the discussions on microsoft.private.sqlserver2005.setup there have
been quite a few problems reported when updating from June CTP to Sept
CTP. Your problems seem to be unusually severe.
You might be better asking the question over on
microsoft.private.sqlserver2005.setup. It's a public newsgroup,
despite its name.
