Hi there.

I'm confused a little bit: the laptop is NOT in the domain, right? First
rule when installing (in a domain): use a local domain admin account,
configured as a USER (DOMAIN) account.
So, since there are two different things, Win Auth should and is failing in
the domain.

Second idea: watch closely the troubleshooting tips from Microsoft regarding
SP2 for XP, since they have done a tremendous job in blocking just about any
port and application; usually you'll have to set your applications by hand to
run (namely the remote administration)
