sqlmangr.exe generated errors

I have successfully installed MSDE 2000 with service pack 3a but when I start
the sqlmangr it shows the following error 'sqlmangr has generated errors and
will be closed by windows'. I looked in the log file and the error displayed
was
'Application exception occurred:App: (pid=556) When: 5/5/2005 @
11:04:52.941 Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)'
The sqlagent and sqlserver are running successfully in services but the
sqlmangr will not run.
Any ideas???
