Re: Install failure of MS SQL Server 2000 and SP3a

John,

I open up the Administration Services>Services and see the MSSQLSERVER row.
The Description and Status are blank. Startup Type column is automatic and
the Logon As column contains .\Edward.

I right click and select Properties. On the Log On tab the "This account"
radio button is selected with the account name of .\Edward and Password and
Confirm Password boxes containing 15 hidden characters.

I try erasing the 15 password characters, go to the General tab and on Start
see the Error 1069 again.

Next I went back to the Log On tab and selected the "Local System Account"
radio button. I don't understand the "Allow service to interact with the
desktop" check box so I left that unchecked. Back to the General tab and
Start. Still Error 1069.

Now I go back to the Log On tab, check the "This account" radio button and
try Browse... In the "Enter the object name to select" and enter
Administrator. Hitting the "Check Names" button changes this to
DELL340\Administrator. The name of the machine is DELL340.

I return now to the Log On tab of the Properties dialog and .\Administrator
is in the "This account" edit box (the DELL340 has disappeared). Still the
same 15 hidden characters of Passwords.

Now however, if I try and go to the General tab, there is a message "Please
enter a valid password".

I clear both password edit boxes and can go to the General tab.

However when I push Start, there is the old message:

Could not start the MSSQLSERVER service on Local Computer.
Error 1069: The service did not start due to a logon failure.

What can I change the account to?
