Chris,

Thanks for getting back to me on this.

When I meant 3rd party and non-essential services, let me put it this way -
here is a checklist of the services and processes that are ok have running
during instalation. ***THEY DONT NEED TO BE RUNNING. IF ANY BELOW ARE
STOPPED, YOU DONT NEED TO START THEM! This is the minimum set, and we know
for a fact that these dont interfere in SQL setup.

Services -
Alerter
ClipBook Server
Computer Browser
Directory Replicator
Event Log Messenger
Net Logon
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM
NT LM Security Support Provider
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service
Schedule
Server
Spooler
UPS
Workstation

Processes
csrss.exe, Explorer.exe, llssrv.exe, loadwc.exe, lsass.exe, nddeagnt.exe,
pstores.exe, RpcSs.exe, services.exe, smss.exe, spools.exe, System, System
Idle Process, taskmgr.exe, winlogon.exe

Cheers,
Vikram
