c:\WINDOWS\dasetup.log should have more detailed errors regarding the cause
of MDAC setup failure.

If the MDAC 2.8 is corrupt or invalid on the machine, then focus on
troubleshooting this problem first and then run the SQL 2000 setup.
Upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) may be one solution to try.

| I have a user that needs to have SQL Enterprise manager
| loaded onto her machine. We have another application that
| required MDAC 2.8 to be loaded some time back to ensure
| that it worked.
|
| When I load SQL I enter the Product Key and then it starts
| to run it's own MDAC installation. At this point I get the
| message "Installation of the Microsoft Data Access
| Components package failed. (-1)
|
|
| At this stage under ODBC > Drivers the entries are all
| missing and the applications that use DSN's will not work.
|
| I can restore to a previous restore point but that does
| not help the install.
|
| Any ideas or suggestions.
|
| Gavin.
