Hi Erik,

You can only instal SQL Server 64 bit on a 64 Bit operating System.

For more information on How to Obtain SQL Server 2000 (64-bit) you can
visit http://www.microsoft.com/sql/64bit/howtobuy/default.asp

How to Obtain SQL Server 2000 (64-bit) :

New SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition Customers
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) can be obtained through the
Microsoft Volume licensing program.

For information on volume licensing, visit the Volume Licensing Overview
page.

Existing SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition Customers

If you are a current SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition customer, you can
obtain the installation CD (media) for SQL Server 2000 (64-bit) provided
that you have a valid SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition license,
determined by either your retail product end–user license agreement (EULA)
or your volume licensing agreement. Obtaining the media does not constitute
the grant of any additional SQL Server licenses.

If you have a valid license for SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition, you are
licensed to use either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of SQL Server 2000
Enterprise Edition. A single license does not allow for simultaneous use of
both 32-bit and 64-bit versions on production servers. Only one version can
be used per license. If you want to run both SQL Server 2000 Enterprise
Edition (32-bit) and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (64-bit)
simultaneously, you must have a license for the 32-bit version and purchase
a separate license for the 64-bit version.

To obtain the media for SQL Server 2000 (64-bit), find your current
licensing program below:

Retail/full packaged product. If you have purchased a retail version of SQL
Server 2000 (32-bit), you can request the 64-bit media by following the
instructions on the Retail Media Fulfillment page.

Note: This option is available to U.S. and Canadian customers only.
Open License volume licensing program. If you are an Open License customer,
you can request the SQL Server 2000 (64-bit) media by contacting your
reseller.
Select License volume licensing program. If you are a Select License
customer, a SQL Server 2000 (64-bit) installation CD will be shipped to you
as part of your CD updates. Remember to report any new SQL Server
installations every month as stated in your Select License agreement.
Where do I find information about my SQL Server 2000 licensing program?
Each product has a specific EULA that details your use of SQL Server 2000.

To learn how you can use SQL Server 2000, find your current licensing
program below:

Full packaged product. If you obtained SQL Server 2000 in a retail box,
your EULA is a paper document inside the box. Printed at the top of that
document are the product components covered by that EULA.

Open License volume licensing program. Your licensed usage of SQL Server
2000 is governed by the product list and product use rights as part of your
Open License agreement. For more information on this type of licensing,
visit the Microsoft Open License page.

Select License volume licensing program. Your licensed usage of SQL Server
2000 is governed by the product list and product use rights as part of your
Select License agreement. For more information on this type of licensing,
visit the Microsoft Select License page.

Note to Resellers
To order the 64-bit media, simply request an updated SQL Server 2000
Enterprise Edition CD-ROM kit from worldwide fulfillment through the
Microsoft Order Entry Tool (MOET) or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). The
updated kit contains both the 32-bit and 64-bit media. Remember, your
customer’s receipt and possession of the additional media for SQL Server
2000 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) does not constitute the grant of any
additional SQL Server licenses. The license(s) your customer purchased for
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (32-bit) allows your customer to run
either SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (32-bit) or SQL Server 2000
Enterprise Edition (64-bit) but not both simultaneously. If your customer
wishes to run both SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (32-bit) and SQL
Server 2000 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) simultaneously, your customer must
possess a separate SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition license(s) for the
32-bit version and a separate SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition license(s)
for the 64-bit version.
