Thanks for all the responses. I have looked into MSDE 2000 and the
purchase of SQL SERVER 2000 Developer Edition. Can anyone confirm
that MSDE comes with an environment for developing stored procedures?
Although this seems rather obvious I don't see that it is explicitly
included anywhere in the MS documentation on the product.
One of the reasons that I wanted to get my old 6.5 running again (I
had been using it on an NT machine) is that it included some
absolutely marvelous examples of stored procedures. They weren't
examples, really, they were the actual utility procedures that did a
lot of the backbone work of the product. I haven't yet seen any
better, well written and well documented, stored procedures. Maybe I
haven't looked hard enough.
Again, thanks for the help. I'm leaning toward the use of SQL SERVER
2000 Developer Edition at this point. The cost is minimal and with it
I will get the use of MSDE for desktop deployment. Hopefully I will
get the stored procedures as well!
